Stavre Gregor Panis Arts & Crafts Sterling Silver Seagull Candlesticks, Falmouth, MA, c. 1950s

Notify me when similar is available:

This stunning set of candlesticks have petal-shaped bases which are slightly domed with rising candle holders also in the forms of blossoming flowers. The pierced borders on the bases are spectacular - the very fine and intricate pierce-work incorporates many variations of seagulls in flight.

We have had only one other set of four candlesticks by Panis which we sold in 2009 which had a multi-motif design. You can view them here.

Provenance:

These pieces come from the collection of a marine biologist and his wife who summered on the Cape while he worked at The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute. Most of the collection was purchased in the 1950s. They have descended in the family.

These stunning candlesticks are stamped underneath 'SGP' within a triangle and 'STERLING.' They measure 4 inches in diameter by 4 inches high, weigh a combined 14.10 troy ounces, have never been monogrammed and are in excellent antique condition.
