Stavre Gregor Panis Arts & Crafts Sterling Silver Horseshoe Crab Brooch, Falmouth, MA, c. 1950s

This rare brooch is whimsically designed as a horseshoe crab. Hand-cut, engraved and with a hammered, surface, this wonderful item shows off the unique nature-inspired designs from Gladys and Stavre Panis.

Provenance:

This piece comes from the collection of a marine biologist and his wife who summered on the Cape while he worked at The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute. Most of the collection was purchased in the 1950s. They have descended in the family.

This wonderful brooch is stamped 'SGP' within a triangle and 'STERLING'. It measures 2.5 inches long, we weighs 8 grams and is in very good condition.
