Wood & Hughes Antique Sterling Silver 'Louvre' Fried Oyster Server, NYC, c. 1890

This is an unusual design and useful serving instrument presented in its original fitted box. The beautifully designed handle in their 'Louvre' pattern  has wonderful scrolling elements accented with flowers.

The uniquely shaped bowl has a flat bottom and curved sides for scooping up oysters.The back of the handle is monogrammed with a lovely Gothic 'W' initial. 

The interior of the box is lined with a cream-colored satin and stamped in gold relief 'WOOD & HUGHES/ MANUFACT'RS/ OF/ Sterling Silver/ 18 JOHN ST N.Y'. The fabric covering the box has some wear. 

This beautiful server is marked with Wood & Hughes' trademark and 'STERLING'. It measures just shy of 10.75 inches long, weighs 3.60 troy ounces and is in very good antique condition with wear to the original gilding of the bowl.
