William Comyns Antique Sterling SIlver Trinket Box, London, 1890/91

With curving and diagonal fluting, this cute, rectangular, small box was made in London by the ever-creative shop of William Comyns. Comyn's shop was known for a large and wide variety of original Victorian silver. Fluting became popular as an 'antique' style in the 1880s, and the crimped edge of the lid and base reference borders found during the baroque era. So in this antique box, we have a box referencing even earlier 'antique' design.

Measuring 2 inches long by 1.6 inches deep and 1.5 inches high, this lovely box is marked on the bezels of both the lid and base. It weighs 1.4 troy ounces and is in very good antique condition.
