Whiting Sterling and Mixed Metals After-dinner Coffee Pot, NYC, c. 1880

This stunning small pot is of exceptional quality. Referred to as 'after-dinner' or 'alack' coffee pots due to their size for serving coffee at the end of dinner, this striking piece is executed in an exquisite aesthetic movement design. The handle, in the form of a branch, is wonderful. At the top and bottom where it connects to the body, applied holly branches spread out in both directions and have applied leaves and copper berries. The leaves are finely detailed, and the copper adds a striking addition to the overall artistic look.  A beautifully hammered surface shimmers. On the domed, hinged lid and at the base of the spout are lovely engraved twigs with leaves.
