Whiting Persian Design Sterling Silver Centerpiece Bowl, NYC, NY, c. 1880s
Of exceptional quality and design, this centerpiece bowl is one of the nicest items we've had by Whiting. Three horizontal sections are separated by applied rope banding. Exotically inspired decoration is featured in each area.
Intricate and exquisite, the central band of bold swirling 'paisley' decoration dominates the design The depth and detail of the chased work is stunning.
The interior of the bowl retains its lovely original gilding and underneath the bowl is beautifully monogrammed 'LLN' in a foliate script.
This rare centerpiece bowl is marked underneath with Whiting's trademark and 'STERLING/ 789/ A'. It measures 4.5 inches high by 9 inches round at the top. It weighs 28.55 troy ounces and is in excellent antique condition.
