Whiting Antique Sterling Silver Sporting Trophy Flagon, NYC, 1883

This stunning pitcher exhibits some of the finest acid-etched engraving we have ever seen. The front scene is an amazing figure of a dog poised amongst a flowing foliage background. The scene underneath the spout creates 'EJTC' initials. 

One side reads 'MEMBER"S CUP while the other reads 'WON BY' with the winner never having been engraved on the pitcher. Underneath the dog is the date '1883'.

This rare trophy is marked underneath with Whiting's trademark and 'STERLING/ 1275. It measures 9.5, weighs 21.25 troy ounces and is in very good antique condition. There is one spot around the bottom edge where the silver is a little shinier due to a dent having been restored which you can see in the last picture below.
