Towle Aesthetic Movement Sterling Salad Set, Newburyport, MA, c. 1885
A beautiful salad set by Towle, from Newburyport Massachusetts, is designed with large swirling devices surrounding aesthetic panels of flowers on a stippled background. The design is very unusual and dates from the 1880's with a mixture of wavy motifs in an almost modern style.
They are marked with Towle's trademark, 'STERLING/ 10'. The initials 'MK' are monogrammed on the back. These wonderful pieces measure 10.25 inches long, weigh a combined 4.05 troy ounces and are in very good condition with slight wear to the original gilding.
