Tiffany 'Daisy' Sterling Buckwheat Pancake or Waffle Server, NYC, c. 1869-75

Quite a rare and beautiful piece, this form is referred to as a buckwheat cake server (see Turner - American Silver Flatware), waffle knife, and waffle server (see Hood - Tiffany Silver Flatware). The pattern is commonly called 'Daisy' and is very scarce. It is a beautiful design of 11 daisies around the flared top of the handle. They surround a single strand of sterling wire which loops at the top and bottom of the handle. The flat blade has a nicely shaped edge end exceptional engraving with a beautiful overall matte finish which accentuates the ornament and bright-cut engraving. The blade retains its original soft gold wash finish.

The back of the handle is stamped 'TIFFANY & CO, STERLING, m' - the small 'm' mark dating it to 1869-75. This wonderful server weighs 2.65 troy ounces, measures  8.5 inches long, has never been monogrammed and is in excellent condition.
