Tiffany & Co Repoussé Antique Sterling Silver Water Pitcher, 1870-91
This wonderful sterling water pitcher is in a classic form with a globular body and a wide, round neck with a slightly flared edge. Exuberant foliate repoussé decoration consists of various leaves, ferns, and flowers. The bold 'C'-scroll handle is also similarly decorated. The dense execution of the exotic scenery is stunning against the stippled background. A lovely foliate cursive style monogram 'J E Le R' is engraved underneath.
This lovely sterling silver pitcher is marked underneath 'TIFFANY & Co/3077 MAKERS 8213/ STERLING SILVER/ 925-1000 M". The 'M' mark was used from 1869-91, and according to Tiffany Silver by Charles Carpenter, the 3077 pattern number dates this design to the early 1870s. It measures 7 inches high, weighs 25.20 troy ounces, and it is in wonderful and crisp antique condition.
