Tiffany & Co Antique Sterling Silver Figural Ice Bowl, New York City, c. 1870-75

Great ice bowls are exceedingly rare and this particular model by Tiffany & Co is a magnificent example. The round bowl is attached to a wide well inside the neck which is attached to a wide foot. The well has a removable liner pierced with star decoration.

Bands of intersecting circles with foliate designs adorn the edges of the body and foot. One side is beautifully engraved 'TD' and the other with the family name 'Davies'.

Exceptionally cast heads of polar bears are attached as handles.

The handles have wonderful details and expressive faces. One can even see the tongues, teeth and eyes looking upwards to the right.

This stunning ice bowl is marked underneath 'TIFFANY & CO/ QUALITY 925-1000/ 3122-2906/ UNION SQUARE' and with the Moore 'm' mark. It measures 11 inches across the handles by 7.25 inches wide by 4.5 inches high, weighs 27.90 troy ounces and is in excellent antique condition with a replaced sterling liner.
