Tiffany & Co Antique Sterling Silver 3 Piece Aesthetic Movement Tea Service, New York City, c. 1881
$0.00
With an all over hammered surface, this wonderful tea service sparkles in the light. The cast and applied spout is in the form reminiscent of an elephant's trunk. The rims of the covers have a wavy design as dous the rolled edge of the creamer. This fluid decoration is found on Tiffany's best silver from the early and mid 1880's. It is even hammered underneath where it was unnecessary to add decoration, however with Tiffany's great works of art, all areas are important.
Comprising a tea pot, covered sugar bowl and a creamer, this service is in excellent condition. It is marked underneath 'TIFFANY & co/ 6349 MAKERS/ 6372/ STERLING-SILVER/ 925-1000/ M'. According to the pattern list in Tiffany Silver by Charles & Mary Carpenter, p 260, this pattern dates to 1881. The pot measures 4.5 inches high and 9.5 inches across the handle. Together the pieces weigh a very impressive 58.5 troy ounces.
