Tiffany & Co Antique Aesthetic Movement Parcel Gilt Sterling Silver Box with Frog, NEW YORK CITY, c. 1879

This rare and small box by Tiffany is one of the nicest we have seen. The sides and base are decorated with irregular hammering to the surface. It is shaped with rounded sides and corners.

The base is beautifully monogrammed 'SMD'.

As seen above, the cover is a wonderful display of acid-etched and applied artwork of a frog on a lily pad who has just caught a dragonfly. The frog, dragonfly and lily pad retain their original gilding. The bottom of the lily pad is designed with a fold and is used to open the hinged cover which also has a spring mechanism.

This stunning box is marked 'TIFFANY & Co/ STERLING SILVER/ 5804 M 2504/ 1019'. It measures 2.75 inches long by 2 inches wide by .75 inches high, weighs 2.80 troy ounces and is in excellent antique condition.
