Tiffany and Co. Set of 6 Antique Sterling Silver Mixed Metal Butter Pats, NYC, NY, c. 1880

Anywhere from 3 to 5 mixed metal items are applied to each of these rare dishes. The hammered surfaces are beautifully textured with a matte finish. The flat interiors are lightly gilt and engraved with an artistic 'FD' monogram. The raised edges are hand-engraved with various ornamental grasses and foliage. The applied fauna all relate to pond or sea life and include various fish, crabs, snakes, shells, tadpoles, frogs, and turtles executed in copper and brass.

These lovely butter pats are marked underneath 'TIFFANY & Co/ 3397/ M/ 496/ STERLING-SILVER/ AND/ OTHER-METALS/ 411-416.' They measure just shy of 3 inches in diameter, weigh a combined 5.30 troy ounces, and are in excellent antique condition with slight wear to the interior gilding.
