Theodore B. Starr Antique Sterling Silver Cupid Serving Plate, New York City, c. 1900

This beautiful plate can be used for serving a multitude of foods. The stunning border is an intricate accomplishment using wire loops and attached castings of leaves and figural scenes.

The wire loops mimic a grapevine with applied bold leaves and a series of grapes draping into the bowl. The pierced, oval scenes are of winged Cupids about to shoot their arrows. These eight scenes are identical.

A lovely engraved 'JEB' monogram is centered on the interior of the shallow dish.

Grape clusters and leaves compose the four feet. It's nice how the grape clusters on the edge reflect downward into the bowl.

This stunning dish is marked underneath 'THEODORE B. STARR/ NEW YORK/ STERLING/ 2615' along with the company mark. It measures 10.5 inches in diameter by 1 inch high, weighs 21.95 troy ounces and is in excellent antique condition.

We have recently acquired a stunning centerpiece bowl in this design with a maker's mark of Ferdinand Fuchs & Brothers. They would have made this plate and retailed it through Theodore B. Starr.
