The Kalo Shop Hand Wrought Sterling Silver Porringer, Chicago, IL, early to mid-20th c.

1 item left

What a wonderful baby present this would make! This beautiful porringer has a bulbous, round bowl with a flat bottom and an applied band around its edge. The side of the bowl exhibits fine hammering, giving it a nice arts and crafts look. The applied handle is a sweet display of a duck with two chicks, created by repousse work and chasing. This family is displayed against a background of larger hammering.

The Kalo Shop is known for its hammered surfaces and creative, forward looking arts & crafts designs. It was started by Clara Barck Welles, who was 'known for her fair employment practices and for giving opportunities to women to become metalsmiths.'(1)

This striking porringer has never been monogrammed and is marked 'STERLING/ HAND WROUGHT/ AT/ THE KALO SHOP/ 9095 s'. It measures 4.24 in diameter by 5.5 inches across the handle by 1 inch high, weighs 4.65 troy ounces, and is in very good antique condition.
