The Kalo Shop Hand Wrought Sterling Silver Arts & Crafts Candle Holders, Chicago, Illinois, c. 1920's - set of 4

Notify me when similar is available:

It is very uncommon to find a set of four arts & crafts candlesticks, especially from the the great Chicago silver firm The Kalo Shop. Having four candle holders also gives you various options to whether use just a pair or all four spread out on your dining table. They can also be grouped together to make an impressive centerpiece. The low form is also unusual. The attached cups are raised and have a rolled rim. The graceful curve of the candle holder and organic shape is quite striking. Stunning hammering gives a lustrous sparkle to the surface.

The Kalo Shop is known for its hammered surfaces and creative, forward looking arts & crafts designs. It was started by Clara Barck Welles who was 'known for her fair employment practices and for giving opportunities to women to become metalsmiths'.(1)

These rare candle holders are marked underneath 'STERLING/ HAND WROUGHT/ AT/ THE KALO SHOP/ 5'. They measure 4.25 inches wide by just shy of 2 inches high, weigh a total of 22.10 troy ounces and are in excellent antique condition.
