Shreve & Co Antique Sterling Silver 'XIV Century' Pattern Centerpiece Bowl, 1904-08

This is a stunning creation of arts & crafts silver with medieval inspired design elements. Made in both flatware and holloware, large '14th century' items such as this are quite rare.

The attached base has applied band around its outer edge which is adorned with small rivets. With its heavy gauge and medieval strap work decoration with rivets, this large bowl is quite striking. The strapwork conforms to the shaped rim and the large shaped straps with rivets are very dramatic. The entire piece is hand-hammered for a beautiful shimmering surface. Even the applied rivets have an irregular, hammered surface.

This wonderful bowl is marked underneath 'SHREVE & CO/ SAN FRANCISCO/ STERLING. It measures 9.25 inches in diameter by just shy of 5 inches high. It weighs 34.40 troy ounces, has never been monogrammed and is in excellent antique condition.
