Shiebler Antique Sterling Silver Twisted Wire Letter Opener, NYC, c. 1880s

This is a fun design by Shiebler and retailed by Shreve, Crump & Low Company of Boston.

It is a single piece of sterling silver with a twist handle. Attached to the end are 2 sterling wires which twist around the top and extend down the sides.

One side of the blade is stamped with the Shiebler 'S' within wings mark, 'STERLING/ 2097' and 'S.C&L.CO.'. This piece measures 11.25 inches long, weighs 1.90 troy ounces and is in excellent antique condition.
