Shiebler Antique Sterling Nautical Sardine Serving Fork, NYC, NY, c. 1880s

George Shiebler created some extraordinary designs, and this sardine server is no exception. The wavy handle is covered with sand, applied seaweed, and starfish. The trident shaped fork is beautifully gilt and uses the figure of a sardine as its middle tine.

This extraordinary and rare server is marked with Shiebler's winged 'S' trademark, 'STERLING/ 2552' and by the Omaha, Nebraska retailer 'MAX MEYER & BRO.' It measures 6.25 inches long, weighs 1.90 troy ounces and is in exceptional antique condition.
