Pair of Shiebler 'Chrysanthemum' Pattern Sterling Silver Wine Coasters, c. 1890's
These stunning coasters were made by George Shiebler. One of today's most collected makers, his work is creative and of high quality. This bold design features densely flowing leaves and chrysanthemums. Shiebler made a flatware pattern in this design which is rare. Matching holloware is extremely rare.
These wonderful coasters are marked on their sides with the Shiebler winged trademark, 'STERLING', and the model number '3953'. They measures 5.25 inches in diameter by 2 inches high. Both have their original wooden inserts with one being oak and the other mahogany. Below you can see where there are three burn marks in the wood on one of the coasters. The felt on the bottom has been replaced and surface to the silver is in beautiful condition.
