Matthew Boulton Antique Sheffield Plate Candlesticks, Birmingham, c. 1790 - suite of 8 candlesticks

Notify me when similar is available:

Having a large suite of candlesticks in two sizes is incredibly rare. Made by Matthew Boulton, one the most famous silversmiths of his time, these sticks make a stunning setting as a group.

The circular bases have flat sides and domed upper sections decorated with circular reeding. The columns have a simple attached wire band decoration at their widest point. The shoulders near the tops are decorated with a complimentary reeded design which matches the bases and the outer rims of the bobeches. These striking classical candlesticks would be quite at home in an antique or modern setting.

This rare and elegant set of antique candlesticks are marked with Matthew Boulton's single sunburst mark. The tall sticks measure 10.75 inches tall and the shorter ones measure 7 inches tall. They have been resilvered at some point in their history (not recently), have all of their original bobeches and are in excellent antique condition with few light blemishes and scratches.
