Luen Wo Antique Chinese Export Silver Punch Bowl or Centerpiece, Shanghai, c. 1900

This is a rare and stunning example of Chinese Export silver. The large bowl is framed with a plain rim with an applied fluted band at the top and a plain, spreading foot at the base. The circular bowl features an intricate, pierced design of bamboo and different birds. This exotic landscape together with birds in various poses is a striking and artistic achievement. A circular blank on the front is engraved with the initial 'C.'

This exceptional bowl is marked underneath 'LUEN WO/ SHINGHAI' along with Chinese shop marks representing Kun He (thanks to Adrien von Ferscht for this identification). It measures 10.5 inches in diameter by 5.5 inches high, weighs 39.35 troy ounces and is in excellent antique condition.

This bowl comes with a later aquamarine hand-blown glass insert.
