Louis-Jacques Berger Early French .950 Silver Beaker, Paris, 1798-1809

This unusual French silver beaker is stunning with its tapered body and bold panel design. The interior is perfectly smooth, and the panel design is formed on the exterior by chasing. The surface has a mirror-like quality, reflecting its surroundings beautifully. One of the panels has a later engraved 'M' over 'S' monogram.

The maker's mark underneath is accompanied by the Association of Gold and Silver Smiths mark and the .950 silver fineness mark used between 1798 and 1809. One of the panels near the top has been stamped with the moyenne guarantee (for the fineness of medium-sized objects).

This wonderful beaker measures 3.5 inches tall by 3 inches wide at the top, weighs 6.15 troy ounces, and is in very good antique condition with slight traces of interior gilding.
