La Pierre Sterling Silver Overlay Large Antique Vase with Loetz (attributed) 'Titania' Glass , New York and Austria, c. 1905-10

This stunning hand-blown vase with its polished pontil underneath has a bulbous body, tapered neck and ruffled edge. The thick glass exhibits stunning colors. The dominant color is an iridescent green.

It is blown with a mixture of blue and silver glass, with cobalt blue being the interior color of the vase. The various hues and mixtures of color are quite lovely. Wonderful sterling art nouveau overlay of swirling stems and foliage rise to the top on a trellis design. The flowers are further enhanced with hand-engraved details.

Although the glass is unsigned, glass of this design and quality are strongly attributed to the Austrian glass firm Loetz which operated from 1840-1940. The silver is marked 'STERLING' and has the 'L' trademark for La Pierre. It measures 12.5 inches tall by 6.75 inches wide and is in excellent condition.
