Kirk & Son 11 oz Egyptian Revival Muffineer c. 1870

Beautifully designed and hand chased, this is one of the most interesting muffineers we've ever seen. Featuring a Sphinx finial with a delightful rectilinear reform pattern of chasing and piercing on the top (see below), the tapered cylindrical body has a band of scrolling foliate chasing, and then a lower band of a more abstracted floral motif resting on a spreading pedestal foot.

Marked by Samuel Kirk & Son of Baltimore, this muffineer is highly atypical of Kirk silver. Kirk is known for their ebullient floral repoussé work, not engraved work as is demonstrated here. They do create wonderful cast finials.

This beautiful piece measures 5.5 inches high, 2.75 inches in diameter and weighs approximately 5 troy ounces. It is monogrammed with a "C" in a cursive script (see below) and is in excellent condition with the exception of a couple very minor dings.
