John Wendt (attr) Rams Head Antique Sterling Silver Pie Server, NYC, c. 1870's

Notify me when similar is available:

Ram's Head is a very uncommon design by John Wendt. It featured a classically inspired handle with a circular device with the figure of a ram's head above. This reserve is engraved with a 'C' initial.

The blade is wonderfully engraved with classical 'Neo-Grec' styling. Applied with an original screw is a wonderful fly perched on the neck of the blade. It is quite amusing to see a fly peering into the bowl where the pie or cake would be served from. Adding a bit of whimsical decoration is indicative of great design, making for amusing conversation.

This rare pie server is marked with the sterling standard '925/ PATENT' along with the great NYC retailer 'BALL, BLACK & Co'. It measures 10.25 inches long, weighs 3.15 troy ounces and is in excellent antique condition.
