John Wendt 'Apollo' Pattern Antique Sterling Silver Pie Server, NYC, c. late 1860s
This is a wonderful pie server in the uncommon 'Apollo' pattern. The shaped blade is beautifully engraved with a wonderful representation of an American eagle amongst classical surroundings. The top of the handle has an oval with a female figure depicting one of the nine muses. The reverse is engraved with a 'MAS' monogram.
This rare server is marked 'PATENT/ 925' and by the Philadelphia retailer 'JE CALDWELL.' It measures 9.25 inches long, weighs 2.50 troy ounces and is in good antique condition with light wear to the figure on the handle.
