John Priest English Sterling Silver Candlesticks - set of 4, London, 1752/53

These lovely George II candlesticks are decorated with scrolling leaves at the corners, as are the corners of the shaped bases and bobeches. The bases and bobeches are also engraved with a crest of a demi-lion rampant holding an urn with flowers. John Preist was a specialist candlestick maker and this is a rare and early set of candlesticks.

These exquisite sterling candle sticks are fully hallmarked underneath, all with the same 'r' year mark of 1752/53. The socles are also marked with the lion passant. Although unmarked, the bobeche match the base and three are engraved with the same crest. We believe these three are original and one is a later, but good, replacement. They measure 8.25 inches high, weigh a total 57.35 troy ounces and are in very good antique condition.
