John & Frank Pairpoint English Gilt Sterling Magnum or Jeroboam size Wine Coaster, London, 1905/06

This is a spectacular wine coaster with impressive size and quality. Made for magnum or jeroboam bottles, this oversized wine coaster accommodates larger sized bottles.

The ring, splayed base is decorated with classical waterleaf decoration. The interior of the base is unadorned and reflects its surroundings beautifully.

The side is quite striking with an intricate trellis design. The design curves outward and is bordered around the top with a gadrooned edge. Traveling around the outside body is a twisting grapevine with leaves and bunches of grapes.

Enhancing the beauty of this rare coaster is the stunning overall gilding.

This lovely coaster, which also makes a wonderful serving dish, is fully hallmarked underneath. It measures 8.25 inches in diameter by just shy of 3.25 inches high, weighs an impressive 24.75 troy ounces, has never been engraved and is in excellent condition with very light scratches to the interior from use.
