This wonderful set of candlesticks is in a bold rococo style. The opulent design features boldly cast floral and foliate elements spreading in all directions conveying movement within the objects.

Each of the shaped pedestal bases is engraved with a lion's head within the cartouche. The removable bobeche are magnificent with their overflowing leaves. So important is the attention to detail that even the undersides of the bobeche are hand-chased for a detailed leaf design.

John Cafe was a specialist candlestick maker. This design is particularly uncommon and of very high quality.

All of the candlesticks are fully hallmarked around the base. The socles are hallmarked with the maker's mark and lion passant. The removable bobeche are marked with the lion passant and are numbered 1 - 4 to match the corresponding numbered original bases. Inscribed underneath each stick is the pennyweight scratch marks of 24.8, 24.16, 23.13 and 24.17.

These lovely candlesticks measure 11.25 inches tall and are in very good antique condition.
