This is a very rare and early American silver basket from Connecticut. The body is hand-raised from a single sheet of silver with an attached rectangular pedestal base. A band of gadrooning creates the bottom edge of the foot and is also applied around the rim. A lovely flat swing handle is shaped to rest on the gadrooned border when down.

Both ends of the bowl are hand-engraved with a lovely script style 'JW' monogram.

This rare basket is marked underneath 'J. WARD' within a punch. It measures 11 inches long by 9 inches wide by 3.5 inches to the highest part of the bowl, weighs 25.75 troy ounces and is in very good/ excellent antique condition.
