Indian Antique Silver Repousse Container, Calcutta, c. 1900

Notify me when similar is available:

This is a wonderful example of Indian silver. The cylindrical body is densely covered in fine details of exotic foliage and structures along with figures performing scenes of daily life including one figure lying down sleeping. The beautiful repousse work of these scenes is finely hand-chased for details. The removable cover is similarly decorated on its dome and has a bold row of beading around its edge.

This rare container is unmarked. The figures and scenes are typical of silver made in Calcutta during this period. It measures 2.25 in diameter by 3 inches tall, weighs 5.95 troy ounces, has never been monogrammed and is in excellent antique condition.
