Henry Wilkinson & Co Pair of Extremely Rare English Sterling Silver Gothic Revival Wine Coasters, Sheffield, 1838/39

These striking wine coasters were made in a rare design of gothic arches with classical foliate decoration. The cast and applied rim repeats the foliate and trefoil design.

These rare coasters retain their original turned wooden bases with sterling bosses engraved with a crest of a griffin.

These lovely sterling silver wine coasters are fully hallmarked around the bottom with the date mark for 1838/39. The bosses in the wooden inserts are fully hallmarked with the date mark for 1836/37. They measure 5.25 inches round by 2.25 inches high and are in very good antique condition. There is a little restoration to the edge of one base; it is not significant and difficult to see.
