Henry Hebbard Antique Coin Silver 'Mask' Pattern Mustard Ladle, New York City, c. 1860

This is a lovely mustard ladle by Henry Hebbard, a New York City silversmith who made wonderful silver and retailed his wares through high-end retailers like Tiffany & Co.

'Mask' was patented in 1859. The oval bead decoration with shell at the top decorates both the front and back. Within this device is an engraved 'K' initial. Below this is a clever incorporation of a wreath and leaves to form a 'mask'.

This uncommon mustard ladle is marked on the back 'HH/ PATENT 1859/ 3' and by the retailer 'WENDELL & ROBERTS'.

It measures 5.25 inches long, weighs .55 troy ounces and is in very good condition with some scratches from use in the bowl.
