Gorham Sterling and Amber Cut to Clear Glass Claret Jug or Decanter, Providence, RI, 1887, the glass likely by Stevens & Williams of England

This is a lovely claret jug with stunning glass and decorative sterling mounts. The cover has a lovely reflective surface and is engraved on the top 'AAJ'. The top is hinged on the back and has a thumb piece and an original chain connected to a glass loop on the body. The band which is attached to the glass is of lovely floral decoration above a row of beading, which matches the beading on the cover.

The glass is hand blown and has a polished pontil underneath. The soft amber is a very rare color. Traveling around the base of the bulbous body is a branch from which other branches grow and are enhanced with blooming flowers. The slender neck is decorated in a similar design. This glass, due to the engraving and style, is likely by Stevens & Williams of England.

This stunning claret jug/ decanter is marked with Gorham's trademark along with 'STERLING/ 50' along with the date mark symbol for 1887. It measures 5 inches wide by 9 inches high and is in excellent antique condition.
