Incorporating many unusual design styles into a single piece epitomizes the grand Victorian tastes of the time. The neck of the body is highly ornate with wonderful repousse featuring scrolling leaves and various flowers on a stippled background which contrasts with the wavy scroll decoration at the base. The curved pouring spout which extends from the base incorporates a rope designed handle above acanthus leaves, a ring with beading and scale decoration at the bottom. The twisted scroll dome lid is adorned by a flower bud-like finial.
This beautiful coffee pot is engraved underneath with a script monogram 'AAL' and is stamped with Gorham's trademark, 'STERLING/ 3850' and with the date mark of 1891. It measures 9 inches high, weighs 16.8 troy ounces and is in very good condition, retaining the original ivory insulators.
