Gorham Nautical Sterling Silver Salt Dish, Providence, RI, c. 1885

This cute salt cellar is unusual in that it has a nautically inspired design around its edge. A fluted bowl creates a wavy, interior edge that compliments the undulating outside edge. These frame the aquatic scene of marsh grasses, fish, and two turtles. A domed, fluted base is applied to the body.

Provenance: Private Collection.

This lovely salt is marked with Gorham's trademark and 'STERLING/ 2160.' It measures just shy of 3 inches in diameter by .75 inches high, weighs 1.20 troy ounces and is in very good antique condition with wear to the original interior gilding.
