Gorham 'Hizen' Pattern Antique Sterling Silver Pie Server, Providence, RI, c. 1880

Notify me when similar is available:

One of the most magnificent japanesque flatware designs ever created was called 'Hizen,' named after an old Japanese province. The combination of art nouveau styling and Japanese imagery makes this a work of art.

The blade has a wavy edge and features a fish swimming amongst rippled water, looking at a crab at the base of the handle. A dragon is depicted along the handle. Engraved on the back is an artistically executed 'JC'(?) monogram.

Provenance: Private Collection.

This wonderful antique pie server is marked on the back with Gorham's trademark along with 'STERLING'. It measures 8.75 inches long, weighs 3 troy ounces and is in excellent antique condition.
