Examples of American marrow scoops are extremely rare.

Marrow scoops were originally used for feasting on bone marrow, considered a delicacy. This clever instrument is made from a single piece of silver and has one narrow and one long scoop of varying proportions. The center is an oval shield with reverse twisting decorating the lengths of the handle.

Provenance: Collection of Dale E. Bennett

This beautiful server is marked with Gorham's trademark and 'STERLING' along with the retailer 'N. MATSON & Co'. It measures 10 inches long, weighs 1.20 troy ounces, has never been monogrammed and is in excellent antique condition.
