Gorham Antique Sterling Silver 'Louis XIV' Pattern Serving Spoon, Providence, RI, c. 1870

Louis XIV is a rare and stunning pattern that incorporates opulent régence design in its shaped handle. The reserve is engraved with a gothic 'B' initial.

Most interesting is how Gorham used various wonderful designs in the bowls and on the blades of the serving pieces in this pattern. This serving spoon has a matte finish on the front of the shaped bowl, which is then covered in gilding. It has five recessed circles which are beautifully engraved. Fine engraving decorates the perimeter.

This wonderful server is marked with Gorham's trademark and 'STERLING/ PAT '70.' It measures just shy of 9.25 inches long, weighs 1.90 troy ounces, and is in excellent antique condition.
