Gorham Antique Sterling Silver 'Hizen' Pattern Serving Berry Spoon, Providence, RI, c. 1880

1 item left

One of the most wonderful japanesque flatware designs ever created was called 'Hizen,' named after an old Japanese province.

Amongst the exotic styling of the handle is a wonderful dragon whose long tail travels down the handle and curls around the back. The base of the handle has a small crab.  The bowl, with its ruffled edge, is engraved with a floral scene and retains traces of original gilding.

Provenance: Private Collection.

This wonderful serving spoon is marked on the back with Gorham's trademark along with 'STERLING.' It measures 9.25 inches long, weighs 3.40 troy ounces, has never been monogrammed, and is in excellent antique condition.
