Gorham Antique Sterling Silver Figural Tazza, Providence, RI, 1868

Notify me when similar is available:

Incorporating beautiful classical elements, this tazza has an inverted applied decorative band around the edge of the bowl, a hand-engraved circle centered within the gilt interior, and rising handles.

A stunning casting of a winged female sphinx creates the stem. Exceptional detail and the stance upon a dimi-sphere create a beautiful image above the undecorated, domed base.

In 1868, Gorham started using letters of the alphabet to date when their products were produced. They used A-Q and then switched to using symbols in 1885.

This magnificent Tazza is marked with Gorham's trademark and 'STERLING/420/ A' and by the retailer 'T. KIRKPATRICK/ NY.' It measures 11 inches across the handles by just over 9 inches high, weighs 29.25 troy ounces, and is in excellent antique condition.
