Gorham Antique Sterling Silver Cracked Egg Salt Dishes, set of 6, Providence, RI - 1872

Notify me when similar is available:

This unusual set of individual salt cellars is designed as hatched eggs on nests.  These whimsical pieces are great examples of the naturalistic designs popular during the mid-19th century and pay homage to our (then) agrarian society and healthy natural living.

These wonderful small salts are marked underneath with Gorham's trademark with the 1872 date mark 'E' and 'STERLING/ 925'.  They measure 1.5 inches wide by 1.25 inches high, weigh a total 2.60 troy ounces and are in very good antique condition with light evidence of use to the interiors.
