This cauldron shaped container is a stunning form. The spherical body is raised on four cast and applied feet. The body has a lustrous matte finish with contrasting hand-engraved details around the upper shoulder.

Complimentary banding below a row of beading decorate the neck of the body. Applied on the sides are loops with a shaped wire handle.

The cover is exquisite. It features a cast bird perched on a gilded branch with berries. The surface of the cover sparkles with the matte finish and engraved outer edge.

This rare and stunning jar is marked with Gorham's trademark along with 'STERLING/ 10/ 1115' and the 'D' date mark for 1871. It measures 6.5 inches high to the top of the handle by 3.75 inches in diameter, weighs 10.85 troy ounces and is in excellent antique condition with a couple very minor scratches to the body. The interior and branch retain their original gilding in wonderful condition.
