Gorham Antique Sterling Silver Bud Vase, Providence, RI, 1869

1 item left

This sweet vase, based on a Roman amphora vase in a stand design, is used to display that special flower. It has a domed, circular base with a flat top platform. Connected to the platform is a central column and three outer supports with paw feet and fantastical winged creatures. For a small item, it uses a lot of various parts constructed to create this lovely piece.

This uncommon vase is marked with Gorham's trademark and 'STERLING/ 1055' and with the 'B' date mark for 1869. It also bears the conjoined "NOJ" mark, which is undocumented but believed to signify a collector rather than a retailer. It measures 6.75 inches tall, weighs 5.40 troy ounces, and is in very good antique condition with light firescale wear to the body which is typical of early Gorham silver.
