Gorham Antique Sterling Silver Aesthetic Movement Sauce Boat, Providence, RI, 1886

Notify me when similar is available:

This is a wonderful gravy or sauce boat. The elongated body exhibits stunning repoussé work of various flora. Shell designs border the top of the floral scenes while circle and diamond motifs border the bottom. A band of basket weave decoration forms the graceful curve of the rim.

A wonderful cast and applied handle is highly ornate in an aesthetic design.

An applied oval base of vertical reeds is supported by three boldly cast feet.

This rare sauce boat is marked underneath with Gorham's trademark and 'STERLING/ F57' the date mark for 1886 and by the New York City retailer 'THEODORE B. STARR'. It measures 7.75 inches long, weighs 13.10 troy ounces and is in excellent antique condition with light scratching to the interior (probably from use with a ladle).
