Bold japanesque mixed metals appliques decorate this exceptional tête-à-tête tea set which was used to share a cup of tea with a good friend. This event conveyed good manners, hospitality, and friendship.

The triangular, concave bodies covered in shimmering hammering are quite unusual. Impressive mixed metal appliques executed in copper and brass include a large egret amongst marsh grasses, a butterfly, owls, and various exotic plants and trees.

This wonderful and rare set is marked with Gorham's trademark and 'STERLING/ & OTHER METALS/ 2205' and the 'M' date mark for 1880. The pot measures 7.25 across the handle and spout by 4.25 inches tall. The mixed metal appliques are in great shape. The set weighs a total 21.60 troy ounces and is in excellent antique condition.
