Gorham Antique Sterling and Other Metals Candleholder, Providence, RI, c. 1880s

This wonderful candleholder is in a very rare form. The raised, shaped, copper body is a spectacular orange-red color. This beautiful shiny surface shows off the applied silver. Applied silver wire of varying circumference are applied around the base, the edges of the handle, the edge of the removable bobeche and the opening of the chamber. Stunning silver swirl design, very modern in its effect, hang down along the side edges.

This rare example of antique mixed metal holloware by Gorham is marked underneath 'GORHAM MFG C0/ STERLING AND OTHER METALS.' It measures 6 inches wide across the handle by 5.5 inches high and is in excellent antique condition.
