Gorham Antique Copper and Applied Silver Tray, Providence, RI, 1884

Notify me when similar is available:

This is a small and stunning tray. Due to its warm colors of varying hues, copper became quite fashionable. It also made a dramatic background for silver appliques.

The shaped tray with raised sides has a wonderful surface of rich red and brown patinated copper. In one corner, an applied 3-dimensional lizard sits amongst a grouping of chased rocks. The center of the tray is chased with subtle swirl and scale design. A magnificent silver dragon is applied in the bottom right corner of the tray.

This lovely tray is marked underneath with the anchor mark used on copper wares and 'GORHAM CO/ B65/ Q'. It measures 7.5 inches long by just over 6 inches wide and is in very good antique condition with some (less than typical) wear to the original patina.
